Cookery Books

Buying ready-packed processed foods may be convenient but is not the best 'fuel' you can put into your body.  Problems include:

  • High fats, often of types which are particularly unhealthy for you
  • High salt
  • Hidden wheat, dairy and sugar
  • Products, especially meat, which you dont know the source for eg cheap chicken sent over from Thailand or factory farmed in the UK
  • Unhealthy levels of bacteria due to long shelf-life .... this is a particular problem with products containing cooked or semi-cooked rice
  • Non-organic ingredients
  • Other chemicals and preservatives included to help maintain long shelf-life

So - what can you do.  The best thing you can do for your own health, and that of your loved-ones, is to relearn the art of preparing meals from scratch yourself.  This does not have to be expensive or time-consuming - you can vary the complexity of the meal depending on whether its a busy weekday evening or a more leisurely Sunday lunch.  The main thing is to make a start and give it a go.

If you are on a therapeutic diet because of health problems, or you are detoxifying on your own, home prepared food is absolutely vital as there will be many things you will have to avoid, at least for the short term, and the only way you can be sure you are sticking to the diet is to buy and prepare the ingredients yourself.
