'Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food'  .... Hippocrates AD390

We have probably all heard of this famous saying by Hippocrates but have you ever really stopped and thought about it.

Increasingly people are understanding the influence that food, and optimal nutrition through supplementation, can have on health. Every day the results of scientific papers are published in medical journals and these results are frequently reported in the National Press.  So yes, people increasingly recognise the importance of good nutrition and many have experienced its power when other more traditional medical treatment has failed to resolve their health problems.

But what about the opposite of this saying?  If food can be your medicine - and lets assume here Hippocrates meant what we would now term as 'good' food (I dont think they had chips and burgers back in his day) ... if 'good food' can have such a positive effect on your health then we must also recognise that 'bad food' can have a detrimental effect on our health - and again it is increasingly recognised that, for instance, the saturated fats in butter and lard may not be good for your heart.

So, at its very basics we know that we should eat more 'good food' than 'bad' and there are guidelines within this site to help you move towards a model of eating which is better for your health.

Sometimes, however, this is not enough.  Nutritional Medicine takes the scientific knowledge of different vitamins and minerals and applies it in a way which has a direct influence on the cells and biological systems within your body.  In this way it can not only remove unwanted symptoms but also help your body to repair by giving it the essential building blocks it requires.

You can do a lot of good yourself through following sensible healthy eating guidelines.  If you want to be sure that any deficiencies or imbalances that have built up over the years are being addressed then you may want to invest in a clinical test which reviews all of the key functions in your body to see how they are doing.  Alternatively you may like to put your health in the hands of a health professional.
